The recognition and help of those round you is nurturing.” ~ Rosemarie Rossetti Client Matt Asks: I never appear to get the popularity I deserve for my work, but I’m afraid to say anything as a result of it might seem like I’m bragging. Is it acceptable to say my accomplishments to others at work? Coach Joel Answers: You know you’re good at what you do and deserve to get more recognition, elevated accountability and a probably even a promotion. But does anyone else know? Many employees are passed by or fully missed just because senior administration doesn’t understand how priceless they're. In a Newsweek article, Sharon Allen, Chairman of the board, Deloitte &Touche USA, mentioned: “Take duty in your personal career. Don’t assume that others are conscious of the great work you’re doing. When I was a younger accountant, I was unhappy about not getting a promotion. I went to my supervisor and informed him all of these items that I thought I should be given credit for and he mentioned, ‘Well, gee, I didn’t know that you simply had carried out all of this stuff.’ It was a real wakeup name. You don’t need to be a bragger, however I think it’s essential that we make folks conscious of our accomplishments…” Your accomplishments are the foreign money you utilize to calculate your worth to the company. When monitoring accomplishments, concentrate on: Business results. The value you deliver. Evidence of your success. Feedback from others. Quantifiable information. Not only does tracking your accomplishments create concrete examples of your worth, the monitoring process itself provides you with confidence. Like Ms. Allen says, you don’t should be a bragger. Take advantage of opportunities to speak your accomplishments.
